The Catch of the Day
Foodtown brings you the catch-of-the-day, every
day! Having stores located in New Jersey, allows our
seafood buyer the opportunity to be close to one of
the greatest fishing areas in the world right off
our coast! We only offer seafood that comes from deep,
clean, clear waters or from aquaculture farms, as
well as fresh frozen fish from around the world, often
flying it in to ensure maximum freshness.
.
Our seafood department offers many varieties of seafood
such as whole and filleted fish like salmon, halibut,
swordfish, yellow fin tuna; even exotic items like
octopus and squid; fresh live lobsters, mussels, oysters;
and those delicious North Atlantic scallops.
Even our shrimp is good for you! Shrimp is lean,
high in protein, and free of carbohydrates—some
might say the ideal food. If that isn't a convincing
enough argument for eating shrimp, here are some other
reasons that highlight why shrimp is as wholesome
as it is delicious: As part of a heart healthy diet,
shrimp plays a major role! No fat, lower in calories
than beef or chicken, raises “HDL” the
good cholesterol, easier to digest and is high in
protein. So who says things that taste great can’t
be good for you?

And if you don't find the product you're looking
for, just ask! We'll do our best to get it for you.
Quick Seafood Safety Tips
-
Keep fish very cold (32-36°F
is ideal) and use or freeze it within two days of
purchase.
-
Thaw frozen fish in the refrigerator,
never at room temperature, to avoid the rapid multiplication
of bacteria, which allows bacteria to multiply very
rapidly.
-
Keep cooked or cooking fish
away from surfaces or utensils that touched raw
seafood and wash hands after handling raw fish.
-
Cook fish 8-10 minutes per inch
of thickness, just until it is opaque and flakes
easily under light pressure from a fork. •
Discard open mollusks (clams, mussels, etc.) that
do not close up after being tapped or run under
cold water.
